Loveta was born on April 27, 1926 in Hillsdale, Kansas to Ralph and Hazel (Denny) Beets. She grew up in the Hillsdale/Spring Hill area. Her mother passed away when Loveta was a small child and she was raised by her stepmother, Ethel Jackson Beets. Loveta’s father was killed in an automobile accident when she was 16. Unable to keep the family farm running after the loss of her father, the family moved to Paola. She attended Spring Hill High School but graduated from Paola High School. Loveta married Jasper Paul Medlin on May 22, 1946 in Olathe, Kansas. They became parents to a son, Larry. Paul and Loveta owned and operated the Medlin Liquor Store in Spring Hill for 42 years. She retired in 2001. Loveta spent many long hours working beside Paul on their farm. Loveta took great pride in being a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Cole-Smith Unit 350 and recently was awarded her 60 year membership pin. She enjoyed working puzzles and playing cards. She was a member of the Hillsdale Presbyterian Church and enjoyed working for her church. Loveta also enjoyed being with her Red Hat Society friends. Yard sales were always a favorite of Loveta, as well as writing poetry.
