Claudia Darlene Randel
Claudia Darlene Randel, 79, passed away December 24, 2015. Please join us as we gather together for a Celebration of Life in Darlene’s Memory at the De Soto Community Center 32905 W. 84th Street De Soto, Kansas 66018 Saturday January 2, 2016 2pm-5pm. In Lieu of Flowers, the family requests that all donations be made to The Darlene Randel Memorial Fund which can be mailed or presented to The Kaw Valley Bank 739 Main Street/PO Box 702 Eudora, Kansas 66025-0702. Arrangements by: Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner 913-856-7111. Condolences may be left at www.brucefuneralhome.com
Singer Songwriter and Nashville Recording Artist Darlene Randel was blessed into this world by the late Elva Irene Jordan and Claud Raymond Jordan. Born in De Soto on December 22, 1936, raised in Wellsville, and graduating from Baldwin High School in 1954, was only the beginning of this Kansas Cowbell's blissful but adventurous journey.
Darlene organized an Extension Unit of Community Women known as "Better Homemakers EHU", was active in the Jolly Junior and the Palmyra 4-H, worked with the Douglas County Youth Rodeo, attended the Baptist Church of Wellsville, served on the Willow Springs Douglas County Township Agricultural Board, promoted the first swim pool with new park equipment as a Chairman of Baldwin City, instructed youth organizations as a softball coach, a den mother to The Boy Scouts of America, and formed the ten and under singing sensations "The Kountry Karats". She performed at venues such as The Blackjack, The Maple Leaf Festival, The McLouth Threshing Bee, The Beaumont Water Tower Festival, Cutters, several County Festivals, and was inducted into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame after several performances at the Avoka Iowa Bluegrass Festival. Darlene also took great pride in her record label Skylark Records and loved and cherished the faithful fans that followed her through her fan club.
Darlene's passions included spending precious time with her family and friends, pickin and grinnin at Bluegrass and Country Music festivals and jam sessions across the globe, making a stranger into a new friend, being kind to all animals, and yodeling her way into the hearts of all who listened. She wanted nothing more than to "Keep America Singing Country" and spread the love and joy that country music brings to people of all ages. Up until her final moments, she sang for her friends at The Pine Crest Apartments of Eudora and the members of the Wellsville Senior Community and continued to sing and share her vivacious personality every day.
Darlene is survived and loved by daughter Coleen and husband Steve, son Coy and wife Donna, sister Shirley Cummings, brother Raymond Jordan and wife Rita. She was preceded in death by her son in-law Ronnie Thompson, brother in-law Paul Cummings and parents Claud and Elva Jordan. She leaves 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson and many nieces and nephews that all loved to call her their Granny.
Her kind heart and her contagious smile will be missed by many, but her song and voice will live in our hearts forever.
